Saratov

Saratov is situated on the right bank of the Volga River. It is a large city (The population about 840,000) and the capital of the Saratov region. The city is known specially as a center of higher education, research and scientific activities. There is one of the oldest Universities in Russia and numerous higher learning institutions in the city. Saratov is also an important industrial center.

On the time of Soviet Union Saratov was “Closed City” due to its military importance. Nowadays it is open in all ways. You can feel that in Saratov you are somewhere between ancient soviet and modern Russia. Huge Lenin statue on Teatralnaya ploshchad points his finger downstairs. It is difficult to guess why.
